ALARM SIRENS: Caritas Jerusalem responds on the ground

One week after the latest regional escalation between the different countries, daily life in Palestine is becoming increasingly difficult. Speaking from Bethlehem, Mr. Anton Asfar, Secretary General of Caritas Jerusalem, described the reality of the conflict's impact, that people can clearly see in the streets.
Many shops have closed and most businesses are not operating. The streets are quiet and movement between cities and villages across the West Bank has become very difficult, whether in the north or the south. This situation is adding more pressure on families who are already facing economic hardship.
Throughout this war, Caritas Jerusalem has focused first on the safety of its staff members in both the West Bank and Gaza. colleagues were asked to stay in their homes and work remotely in order to reduce risks during the escalation.
Despite that, the team of Caritas Jerusalem has continued its humanitarian work. They resumed providing essential services to communities in need. This includes preparing and distributing hot meals to elderly people and maintaining life saving medical services in its health centers in places such as Taybeh, Ramallah, and across Gaza.
Mr. Asfar also mentioned a moment of relief during these difficult days. Fortunately, two Caritas colleagues and a volunteer who had been abroad were rescued and were able to return safely to the Holy Land. He thanked the partners and colleagues who helped make this possible and supported their safe return to their families.
At the same time, he said that the needs on the ground remain high while the available resources are limited. For this reason, he called on Caritas partners and friends around the world to continue standing with the people of the Holy Land so that Caritas Jerusalem can continue its life saving services and support the most vulnerable communities during this critical time.
