The Quiet Strength That Holds Us Together

A woman is often the quiet strength behind everything that continues to stand. She gives without counting, carries without complaint, and loves without condition. In every home, every workplace, and every community, there is a woman holding things together with patience, courage, and care. On Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, we do more than celebrate women. We take time to recognize everything they carry, everything they give, and the strength they show, even in the quiet moments no one notices.

A mother, especially, is the heart of this strength. She is the one who gives warmth to a house and turns it into a home. She carries the worries of her children in silence, stands beside them through every part of life, and keeps giving even when she is tired. Her love is not loud, but constant. Her sacrifice is not temporary, but daily. In her presence, we learn what tenderness looks like, and in her resilience, we learn what true strength means.

Women are not only the heart of families, but also the soul of communities. They care, teach, support, create, and heal. They carry stories of dedication that are often hidden in ordinary days. A woman may be a mother, a daughter, a caregiver, a teacher, a colleague, or all of these at once. Yet in every role she holds, she leaves something deeply human behind: comfort, dignity, hope, and life.

At Caritas Jerusalem, this truth is lived every day. Women are not only part of the institution. They are part of its spirit. Through their compassion, dedication and commitment, they help bring the mission of Caritas to life in the most genuine way. They stand beside the elderly, support the vulnerable, teach young women, serve families, and carry their responsibilities with both professionalism and heart. Their work is not simply a task to complete, but a message of love expressed through service.

Caritas Jerusalem also believes that caring for the community begins with valuing the people who serve it. For this reason, the institution has always recognized the importance of supporting, encouraging, and strengthening its female employees. It believes in their potential, trusts their role, and creates space for them to grow, contribute, and lead. This support is connected deeply to the mission of Caritas itself: to uphold human dignity, to stand with those who are often overlooked, and to build a culture rooted in empathy, justice, and hope.

This spirit of appreciation was reflected in a meaningful way when Mr. Anton Asfar, Secretary General of Caritas Jerusalem, visited the female employees to extend his greetings and appreciation on this occasion. His presence was a simple but powerful gesture of gratitude and recognition, one that carried warmth and closeness. The visits also included Baytouna Elderly Day Care Center in Ramallah, Taybeh Medical & Rehabilitation Center, and Ramallah Vocational Training Center, where the same spirit of care, respect, and heartfelt appreciation was shared. These moments may seem small, but they carry deep meaning, because they remind women that their efforts are seen, their presence matters, and their work is truly valued.

This meaning was expressed beautifully in the words of one employee during the interviews, when she shared that since the day she began working at Caritas Jerusalem, no one had thanked her in the way it was done today. She said that this sincere appreciation truly gave her a strong push to continue her work despite all the challenges. Her words captured something essential: that recognition is never a small thing. Sometimes, it is exactly what gives a person the strength to continue, the courage to face difficulties, and the reassurance that their efforts have not gone unnoticed.

To support women in the workplace is not only an administrative decision. It is a human and moral commitment. It means believing in their voice, respecting their journey, and understanding that when a woman is empowered, an entire family and community can be strengthened with her. In this way, Caritas Jerusalem does not only honor women through words, but through the opportunities, trust, and appreciation it offers them in daily life.

On Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, we honor every woman whose strength has carried others, and every mother whose love has shaped lives in ways words can never fully describe. We honor the women who continue to give even when life is heavy, who remain a source of light in difficult times, and who remind us, simply by who they are, that compassion is one of the greatest forms of strength.

Today, we say thank you.

To every mother.

To every woman.

To every quiet heart that keeps the world standing.
