Our Vision
A future where everyone enjoys equality, love, compassion, dignity and peace in a society that embraces social justice as a way of life.
Our Values
The core foundations over which Caritas Jerusalem was established in 1967 focused on improving the quality of life for people and giving them a chance to live in dignity. To do so, CJ concentrates on Solidarity, Social Justice, Stewardship, Compassion and Social Cohesion as essential mandates of how CJ creates a difference on the ground. The Values of Caritas Jerusalem:
• Dignity: As a representative of the Church in the society, we believe that the disadvantaged people we set out to help are entitled to be treated with dignity and respect to become agents of change rather than being portrayed as objects of pity. Our priorities revolve around safeguarding those in need at all times regardless of their gender, background, age or religion. Therefore, we vouch to lend a helping hand to all those marginalized segments living in the Holy Land without prejudice to serve the true mission of the Church.
• Solidarity: At Caritas Jerusalem, we stand in unity with the poor and the disadvantaged people in the community and try to see the world through their eyes and from their perspectives. This will allow us to give the people what they need and not what others may think is best for them. We are also committed to honoring and communicating their voices to uphold and protect their rights at all times.
• Social Justice: In our aim to support those in need, we strive to maintain equality and at the same time respect the individual needs of people to create a real difference in their lives. We show the love of the Church by respecting the diversity of people in need and do all that is in our power to make sure that no one is left out.
• Stewardship: Driven by our mission, we seek to help the marginalized segments of the society in a way that best represents the Church’s values. Therefore, we seek to conduct our work in a transparent manner and be accountable for the results of what we do and how we use the resources we have in an optimal way as trusted stewards of the Church.
• Compassion: The need for compassion from the Church was the main reason behind establishing Caritas Jerusalem in 1967. Caritas sees compassion as an integral part of everyday work regardless of the provided services or the people we help. We strongly believe that compassion is best sought through empathy, modesty and showing kindness without reservations.
• Social Cohesion: For long-term impact, Caritas Jerusalem believes that more work and outreach can be done by building and fostering relationships and partnerships among all society components; individuals and institutions. Promoting social cohesion as protect the public common good and help empower the society in a sustainable manner.
