Caritas Jerusalem Secretary General Visits Ramallah Governorate, Showcasing Empowerment Through Micro Projects

Ramallah, September 17, 2024 — Mr. Anton Asfar, Secretary General of Caritas Jerusalem, alongside staff members, conducted a field visit to the Ramallah Governorate this week, where they held key meetings with the Minister of Social Development and other stakeholders. The visit aimed to strengthen partnerships and highlight the progress of community development initiatives in the region.

During the visit, Mr. Asfar met Ms. Sana, a 43-year-old woman from Birzeit (North of Ramallah) and beneficiary of a micro project supported by the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem

Western USA Lieutenancy. Sana, who cares for her ailing parents, has overcome significant challenges

to establish a kindergarten in Birzeit in a building provided by the Latin Patriarchate. With the support of the Knights, she was able to enhance the kindergarten’s facilities, creating a safe and nurturing environment for local children. The improved facilities have increased enrolment, allowing Sana to generate a sustainable income while caring for her family.

The project is part of a broader effort by Caritas Jerusalem to empower individuals through income-generating initiatives. Over the past year, the organization has helped launch several similar projects, aiming to foster self-reliance and strengthen local communities. Caritas provides participants with essential resources, training, and guidance, ensuring their success in the long term.

“Caritas Jerusalem’s interventions go beyond immediate food security needs,” said Mr. Asfar. “We are empowering individuals like Sana to build sustainable futures and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”

This initiative underscores the potential of targeted support to drive lasting change. It highlights the resilience and creativity of individuals like Sana, who, despite personal hardships, are determined to improve their lives. Through these efforts, Caritas Jerusalem is helping build stronger, more secure futures for families in the region.
