Caritas Jerusalem’s Collaboration with the Artificial Limbs and Polio Center in Gaza: A Lifeline for Children and Families Affected by the Conflict

In the wake of the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Caritas Jerusalem is proud to collaborate with the Artificial Limbs and Polio Center to provide crucial support to those who have suffered unimaginable losses. As part of our emergency appeal, we are providing artificial limbs to 140 individuals, most of whom are children, who have tragically lost their limbs during the recent and ongoing war.

Since October 2023, Gaza has been ravaged by a devastating conflict that has claimed the lives of over 46,000 Palestinians and left more than 110,000 injured. Among these, over 4,500 individuals have undergone amputations, and at least 800 of them are children. This catastrophic toll underscores the urgent need for humanitarian aid and medical intervention.

The medical system in Gaza has nearly collapsed, with two-thirds of healthcare facilities either destroyed or rendered non-functional. Access to essential medical supplies, including prosthetics, remains severely restricted, further exacerbating the suffering of the affected population.

Through our collaboration with the Artificial Limbs and Polio Center, we are striving to provide life-changing prosthetics to those who need them most. These artificial limbs are not just a physical support but also a symbol of resilience. For many children, receiving a prosthetic limb offers hope for a better future, helping them to regain mobility and independence in the face of overwhelming adversity.

This partnership is not just about medical assistance—it is part of Caritas Jerusalem’s broader mission to strengthen health and economic resilience in the Holy Land. By helping to restore physical capabilities and support recovery, we aim to empower individuals and families to rebuild their lives amidst the ongoing challenges.

As the crisis in Gaza continues to unfold, Caritas Jerusalem remains committed to providing urgent humanitarian aid and long-term support to those in need.
